What React Native is
React Native lets developers write a mobile app in JavaScript or TypeScript using the same component model as React on the web, and then run it on both iOS and Android. Unlike older hybrid approaches that showed a web page inside an app, React Native draws real native interface elements, so buttons, lists and keyboards behave the way phone users expect.
Most new React Native projects use Expo, a set of tools and services around React Native that handles builds, device features such as the camera and notifications, and over-the-air updates for JavaScript changes. When an app needs something Expo does not cover, developers can still write native Swift or Kotlin modules and call them from the shared code.
The main business benefit is cost and speed: one team, one codebase and one set of features for two platforms, instead of two separate apps that drift apart over time.
It also lowers the cost of every change after launch. A new screen, a price update or a fix to the checkout flow is written once and reaches both iPhone and Android users in the same release, which matters more over years of ownership than the first build does.
When React Native fits, and when to choose something else
- Good fit: business apps built from forms, lists, maps, photos, payments and notifications, such as field crew apps, customer booking apps and member apps.
- Good fit: when you already have a React web app, because the same team and some shared logic can cover both.
- Compared with Flutter: both are solid cross-platform choices. Flutter draws every pixel itself with the Dart language, which gives very consistent visuals, while React Native uses native components and JavaScript, which has a larger hiring pool.
- Choose native Swift or Kotlin instead: heavy 3D, games, advanced camera or audio processing, or apps that must adopt each new Apple or Google feature the day it ships.
- Consider a web app instead: if users only need the tool occasionally on a desktop, a responsive web app may do the job without app store releases at all.
What we build with React Native
- Field apps for technicians and drivers: today's jobs, checklists, photos, signatures and offline mode for poor signal.
- Customer apps for booking, ordering, loyalty and account management, connected to your existing systems.
- Member and community apps with content, events, messaging and push notifications.
- Companion apps for an existing web platform or SaaS product, sharing the same backend and logins.
- White label apps released under your brand in your own Apple and Google developer accounts.
React Native development company, freelancer or in-house developer?
A React Native developer for hire on a freelance basis can work well for a small, clearly defined app or a fix to an existing one. Mobile apps involve more than code, though: designs for two platforms, a backend and database, push notification setup, app store listings, review rejections and OS updates every year. A single freelancer has to cover all of that, and the app can stall if they become unavailable.
An in-house mobile developer makes sense when the app is your core product and you have someone technical to manage them. Expect to recruit, onboard and keep that person busy between releases.
A React Native development company covers the whole job with a team. At Zoti that means designers, mobile and backend developers and a dedicated project manager on a monthly plan starting at $499/month, covering design, development, hosting and the ongoing changes Apple and Google updates require.
How a React Native project works
- Map it outWe list who uses the app, what they do in it, what must work offline and which systems it connects to.
- Clickable designsYou tap through a prototype on your own phone before any code is written.
- Build in roundsYou install test builds on your phone through TestFlight and Android test tracks and give feedback each round.
- App store releaseWe prepare listings, privacy details and screenshots, and handle Apple and Google review.
- Maintain and improveWe keep the app current with new iOS and Android versions and ship new features as you need them.

Common questions
How much does it cost to hire a React Native developer?
Rates vary a lot by experience and location, and the developer is only part of the cost of a mobile app. With Zoti, custom projects start at $499/month for a full team covering design, development, hosting and ongoing changes, with a written quote first.
Is React Native as good as a native app?
For most business apps, users cannot tell the difference. Native Swift or Kotlin still has an edge for graphics-heavy apps, games and features that rely on the newest device capabilities.
React Native or Flutter: which should I choose?
Both are good choices for business apps. React Native is often the better pick if you already use React on the web or want the larger JavaScript hiring pool. Flutter suits teams that want pixel-identical visuals on every device.
Can you take over our existing React Native app?
Yes. We review the code, dependencies and build setup, update outdated libraries that block new iOS and Android releases, and then continue development.
Do you publish the app to the App Store and Google Play?
Yes. We prepare the listings and handle submission and review, ideally in developer accounts that you own so the app stays yours.
