Best SAP Business One alternatives for growing companies
Companies look for an SAP Business One alternative when upgrades, partner costs or an older on-premise setup become a burden, or when they want a cloud ERP with less customization to maintain. The usual shortlist is NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Acumatica and Odoo; Zoti does not build replacement accounting or ERP cores, but builds the portals, apps and integrations around them, starting at $499/month.

Why companies look for an SAP Business One alternative
SAP Business One is SAP’s ERP for small and midsize businesses. It covers accounting, purchasing, inventory, sales, production and reporting in one system, and it is sold and supported through a network of partners. Distributors and light manufacturers in particular have run on it for many years.
The pressure to move usually builds slowly:
- Your installation is on-premise or hosted on an older server, and keeping it updated takes partner hours every year.
- Customizations and add-ons made years ago make each upgrade harder, so the company falls behind versions.
- You depend on one partner for changes and support, and response times or rates no longer work for you.
- Staff work outside the system in spreadsheets, because entering data in Business One from a warehouse floor or a sales visit is awkward.
- Leadership wants a cloud system that works well in a browser and on mobile, and fewer servers to manage.
ERP alternatives to SAP Business One
These are established ERPs sold today, each mostly through partners or the vendor’s own team. Ask every vendor for a demo built on your own processes, not their standard script.
- Oracle NetSuite: suits growing companies that want a full cloud ERP with financials, inventory and ecommerce options from one vendor. The trade-off is a significant subscription and an implementation that needs careful scoping.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: suits businesses already on Microsoft 365 that want a cloud ERP with a large partner network. The trade-off is that quality depends heavily on the partner you choose.
- Acumatica: suits distributors, manufacturers and construction firms that want a cloud ERP with industry editions. The trade-off is a smaller ecosystem than Microsoft or Oracle.
- Odoo: suits companies that want a modular, open-source-based system and are willing to configure it. The trade-off is that complex setups need an experienced implementer to stay maintainable.
Should you build a custom ERP instead?
For the finance core, almost certainly not. A general ledger, multi-currency, tax handling, inventory valuation and audit trails are expensive to build correctly and expensive to maintain, and your auditors and accountants expect a recognized system. Zoti does not recommend replacing your ERP’s accounting with custom software.
What custom software does well is the work your ERP handles badly. Many Business One users only feel stuck because the people on the floor, in the truck or at the customer cannot use the ERP comfortably. Keep the ERP as the system of record and build focused tools that read and write to it:
- A customer or dealer portal for ordering, order status, invoices and reorders, connected to your item and price data.
- A warehouse app for picking, packing, receiving and cycle counts on handheld devices.
- A field sales app that shows customer history and creates quotes or orders on the spot.
- Production or job tracking screens built for the shop floor, posting completions back to the ERP.
- Reports and dashboards that combine ERP data with sources the ERP does not hold.
How to plan an ERP switch
- Map how you actually workDocument order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, inventory and production as they happen today, including the spreadsheets.
- List customizationsCatalog every add-on, user-defined field, query and report in Business One, and mark which still matter.
- Run scripted demosGive two or three vendors your real scenarios and data samples, and score how each handles them.
- Plan data migrationDecide which master data and open transactions move, how much history to bring, and how to archive the rest.
- Go live at a period startCut over at a month or year start, run a parallel close if you can, and keep the old system available read-only.
Questions to ask before replacing SAP Business One
- Is the problem the ERP itself, or the partner, the version or the old server it runs on?
- Would upgrading or moving to a hosted or cloud deployment of Business One solve enough of it?
- Which add-ons and customizations would you have to rebuild, and do you still need them?
- What will each option cost over five years, including implementation, licenses and partner support?
- Which jobs do your staff avoid doing in the ERP today, and could a focused custom app fix those instead?

Common questions
What is the best alternative to SAP Business One?
NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Acumatica are the most common cloud alternatives, with Odoo for companies wanting a modular approach. The best fit depends on your industry, your partner and how much customization you need.
Is SAP Business One being discontinued?
SAP Business One is still sold and supported through partners. Check SAP’s current roadmap and your version’s support dates with your partner, since older versions do reach end of support.
Is NetSuite better than SAP Business One?
NetSuite is cloud-native and managed by the vendor, which many companies prefer. SAP Business One can be strong for distribution and manufacturing with a good partner. Compare both on your own processes and total multi-year cost.
Can we build our own ERP instead of SAP Business One?
It is rarely a good idea for the finance and inventory core. Building custom portals, apps and integrations around a recognized ERP usually gives you the fit you want with far less risk.
Can custom software integrate with SAP Business One?
Yes. SAP Business One offers a Service Layer API and other integration options. Zoti builds portals, apps and integrations that connect to it or to its replacement, with custom projects starting at $499/month.
