What Google Cloud is good at

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is Google’s public cloud. For business software, the services that come up most are Cloud Run, which runs a containerized app and scales it down to nothing when nobody is using it; Cloud SQL for managed PostgreSQL or MySQL; Cloud Storage for files; BigQuery for analyzing large amounts of data with plain SQL; Pub/Sub for passing messages between systems; and Vertex AI for using Gemini and other models.

Google Cloud’s strengths are data and simplicity at the app level. BigQuery lets a small team query very large datasets without running a database server, and Cloud Run is one of the easiest ways on any major cloud to host a web app or API that you pay for mostly when it is used. Firebase, Google’s app development platform, runs on Google Cloud too, so a Firebase app can grow into wider Google Cloud services without moving.

When Google Cloud is the right choice, and when it is not

Google Cloud is a strong fit when reporting and analytics matter, for example combining sales, marketing and operations data into one place for dashboards. It also suits companies that run on Google Workspace, since apps can use Google sign-in and work with Gmail, Calendar, Drive and Sheets, and teams already building on Firebase.

It is a weaker fit when your company is built around Microsoft 365, SQL Server or .NET, where Azure is usually smoother, or when you need a niche managed service that only AWS offers. Google Cloud also has a smaller pool of consultants and freelancers than AWS. As with any cloud, costs can surprise you without budgets and alerts, especially from BigQuery queries that scan more data than they need.

What we build on Google Cloud

  • Web apps, portals and APIs on Cloud Run with a Cloud SQL database, sized to real usage.
  • Reporting pipelines that pull data from your CRM, store, ads and accounting into BigQuery, feeding live dashboards.
  • Internal tools for Google Workspace companies, with Google sign-in and links to Drive, Sheets and Calendar.
  • AI features using Gemini through Vertex AI, such as summarizing documents, sorting requests or drafting replies.
  • Backends that grow Firebase apps beyond what Firebase alone handles well, such as heavy reporting or complex jobs.
  • Scheduled jobs and event-driven workflows using Cloud Scheduler, Pub/Sub and Cloud Functions.
  • Reviews of existing projects for open permissions, unused resources and missing backups.

Google Cloud consultant, freelancer or development company?

A freelance Google Cloud developer is a reasonable choice for a contained job, like deploying an existing app to Cloud Run or setting up a BigQuery export. The pool is smaller than for AWS, so check for real hands-on GCP work rather than a general cloud background.

A Google Cloud consultant is usually brought in to design an architecture or review security and costs. That is useful advice, but someone still has to carry it out and look after the system afterwards.

An in-house data or cloud engineer makes sense once you have constant work on infrastructure and analytics. For most small and growing businesses the workload comes in bursts.

A Google Cloud development company like Zoti builds the software, hosts it on Google Cloud and keeps it running, with a dedicated project manager as your one contact, on a monthly plan starting at $499/month.

How a Google Cloud project works with us

  1. Map what you haveWe list your Google accounts, projects, data sources and the tools your team already uses.
  2. Plan the setupWe pick the simplest set of services that does the job and explain the expected running costs in plain terms.
  3. Design and approveYou click through screens or review sample reports before anything is built.
  4. Build in roundsWorking pieces arrive in short rounds, deployed to a test project in your own Google Cloud organization.
  5. Launch with guardrailsBudgets, alerts, backups and least-privilege access are in place on day one, and we keep improving from there.

Questions

Common questions

What does a Google Cloud consultant do?

A Google Cloud consultant designs or reviews how software and data run on Google Cloud, including hosting, databases, analytics, security and costs. Some only advise; Zoti also builds the software and runs it.

How much does Google Cloud consulting cost?

It ranges from hourly reviews to ongoing contracts, and rates vary widely. Zoti custom projects start at $499/month, covering design, development, hosting and ongoing changes, with a written quote first. Google bills the cloud usage itself.

Is Google Cloud good for small businesses?

Yes, especially with services like Cloud Run that cost little when traffic is low. It is a particularly good fit for businesses on Google Workspace or those that need serious reporting on their data.

What is the difference between Firebase and Google Cloud?

Firebase is a set of ready-made app building blocks, such as sign-in, a database and hosting, aimed at web and mobile apps. Google Cloud is the full platform underneath, with far more services. Firebase projects are also Google Cloud projects.

Can you build dashboards from our data in BigQuery?

Yes. We set up pipelines that bring data from your systems into BigQuery and build dashboards on top, either in a reporting tool you already use or inside a custom app.
